Personal
There is record of a "Kineth" Britt marrying Polly Britt on 23 Aug 1848 in Robeson County. Stephen Lamb was listed as one of the witnesses to this first marriage, and Kenneth had a cousin (technically, first cousin, once removed) named Stephen Lamb; that is, Stephen Lamb's mother was Kenneth Britt's great-aunt, Nancy Britt Lamb.

If this is indeed my Kenneth Britt (interestingly, Kenneth's name is misspelled as Kineth on the record of his marriage to Elizabeth Delight Parker), he was a widower by the time of the 1850 Robeson County census, when he is found living with a second cousin, Flora Britt Cribbs, her children and her younger Britt siblings: Kenneth Britt, 26; Flora Cribs (sic), 30; Elizabeth Britt, 14; Jane Britt, 12; Nancy Cribs, 8; Roxanna Cribs, 6. According to my notes "Burwell" Britt, age 60, lives next door.

Flora Britt Cribbs's father, Alexander, died in 1849 or early 1850; in his will, he made provisions for Flora and her younger siblings, named above. Flora was probably the grandaughter of either Alexander or Nathaniel Britt, brothers to Kenneth's paternal grandfather, Samuel Elisha Britt, each of whom named a son Alexander. Flora's mother was apparently already deceased at the time her father died. I found a marriage record for Flora Britt and Archibald Cribbs on 8 Aug 1841 in Robeson County; she was obviously a widow by 1850.

The marriage date for Kenneth and Elizabeth doesn't jibe with the birthdate of their first child, Prudence Anna. Some records (e.g., 1900 census) have reported she was born in October 1861. That month might be accurate, but the year cannot be since she appears as a 1-year-old in the census taken July 1860; as her brother was six months old in that census (i.e., b. Jan 1860), there's little conjectural wiggle room. Either the Marriage Records source is erroneous or Prudence was "premature", more likely the former given the social mores of that era. Prudence Anna's birthdate was listed only as 1858 on her death certificate.

The 1880 Robeson County census (transcription linked below) shows Kenneth, 57, farmer, and Elizabeth, 50, living in Britts Township, with the following children still at home: Burrel J., 20; Martha E., 18; James C., 16; Johnel Q., 14; Margaret A., 12; Willie W., 10; Nancy E., 9; Floyd C., 7; Ira French, 6; Rosilla, 5; Annette D., 4. Burrel's occupation is shown as "Turpentine", while that of Martha, James, Johnel, Margaret, Willie and Nancy is shown as "Farm Laborer." Martha was apparently visiting her older sister, Prudence Britt Sutton, at the time the census taker visited that household, so she appears in both households for this census.

In his will, Kenneth left all of his worldly goods to his wife, Elizabeth, and named as executor his friend, Robert S. Britt. In June 1902, the 66-year-old Elizabeth filed for a widow's pension on the basis of Kenneth's Civil War service in Company B, 50th Regiment (Infantry); according to her application she had only a dower interest in about $250 worth of "poor farm land."
